Why I Started Yui’s Japanese Culture Lab
I created Yui’s Japanese Culture Lab as a space to share the parts of Japan that shaped my life—both the traditional culture I grew up with in Hyogo and the imaginative worlds found in anime, folklore, and Japanese subculture.
While seasonal customs and everyday traditions were familiar parts of my childhood, I was equally fascinated by stories about yokai, mysterious legends, and the emotional depth found in Japanese fantasy. To me, Japan’s identity is not only historical but also creative, expressive, and full of wonder.
Another important reason behind this blog is my experience with AI. I’m not from the tech field—I’m a nurse, and my background is rooted in caring for people. Because of that, discovering AI had a meaningful impact on how I think and create. It became a tool that helps me explore ideas more deeply, reflect on myself, and share Japanese culture in new and modern ways.
Here, I want to bring together the things I love most:
- the traditional culture that colored my daily life
- the anime and subculture that sparked my imagination
- the folklore that carries Japan’s emotional history
- and the possibilities of AI for creative expression and storytelling
Whether you are learning Japanese, exploring Japanese folklore, enjoying anime, or simply curious about creative uses of AI, I hope this blog feels welcoming and inspiring.
Above all, I hope my writing helps you discover the beauty of Japan and encourages a meaningful journey—one that enriches your curiosity, warms your heart, and adds a sense of wonder to your days.
This blog is my way of sharing who I am, what I love, and the Japan that continues to shape me.
