Your mistakes aren’t failures—they’re data. Use this system to track, fix, and review errors so you stop making the same ones.

TL;DR
Most learners don’t improve because they don’t review mistakes properly.
This system turns mistakes into “reusable correct chunks” and schedules them:
Capture → Diagnose → Correct → Convert to chunks → Review → Reuse
Why a Mistake Notebook Works
You repeat mistakes because:
- You correct them once but never reuse them,
- You don’t know the real cause (grammar vs word choice vs politeness),
- You don’t review them on a schedule.
A mistake notebook fixes all three.
The System (5 Steps)
Step 1: Capture the mistake (immediately)
Save:
- What you said/wrote,
- The corrected version,
- The situation (context).
Step 2: Diagnose the cause (choose ONE)
Use categories:
- Grammar pattern error,
- Particle error,
- Vocabulary/word choice,
- Politeness/register,
- Unnatural phrasing,
- Pronunciation (optional).
Step 3: Create a “one-line rule”
Example:
- “When requesting politely, use 〜てもいいですか instead of casual 〜ていい?”
Step 4: Convert into 3 reusable chunks
Make:
- The corrected chunk,
- A polite version,
- A realistic everyday alternative.
Step 5: Review on schedule
Day 1 / Day 3 / Day 7 / Day 14
During review, you must use it (say it, role-play it), not just read it.

How to Use AI (Without Becoming Dependent)
Use AI for:
- Explanation of why it’s wrong,
- Creating natural alternatives,
- Generating variations and mini role-plays.
Don’t use AI for:
- Blindly accepting unnatural output,
- Skipping reuse and review.
AI Prompt Box (Copy/Paste)
Diagnosis + rule:
“Correct my sentence and explain the #1 cause. Give me a one-line rule I can remember.”
Chunk conversion:
“Turn the corrected sentence into 3 reusable chunks: neutral, polite, realistic everyday. Explain when to use each.”
Mini role-play:
“Create a 3-turn role-play where I must use this chunk. After my reply, correct only my #1 most important mistake.”
Weekly Review (10 Minutes)
Once a week:
- Pick 10 mistakes from the week,
- Say the corrected chunks out loud,
- Do 2 role-plays,
- Choose the top recurring category.
Your recurring category tells you what to focus on next week.
Common Mistakes
- Collecting mistakes but never reviewing
- Writing long explanations instead of short rules
- Not converting corrections into chunks
- Reviewing by reading only (no output)
